Unattended cooking causes Waikiki penthouse fire; 1 hospitalized

HONOLULU (Island News) – A Waikiki building fire was deemed as accidental after the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) extinguished the blaze on Saturday night.

At 10:59 p.m., HFD crews arrived at Ena Road to a mid-level apartment building where nothing was visible. However, building security confirmed flames on the penthouse level.

Firefighters responded to the penthouse level and initiated an aggressive fire attack and put the fire out at 11:06 p.m. and fully extinguished at 11:07 p.m…
