Free events celebrate Queen Lili’uokalani and Hawaiian History Month

HONOLULU (Island News)-September will mark the first official Hawaiian History month after the state adopted Act 167 earlier this year. Events around Oahu will recognize the contributions of the Native Hawaiian community and honor Queen Liliuokalani’s life and legacy.

“These events invite us to walk in the footsteps of our kūpuna, to celebrate our Queen, and to come together as a community in the history that continues to shape our future,” Malia Nobrega-Olivera from the Hawaiinuiakea School of Hawaiian Knowledge wrote in a statement.

Events are presented by the Hawai’i Pono’i Coalition and the University of Hawai’i’s Hawai’inuiakea School of Hawaiian Knowledge. All events are free and open to the public…
