Great Aloha Run ends 41-year legacy; event founder retires

HONOLULU (Island News) – The iconic Great Aloha Run has officially crossed its final finish line after more than four decades of bringing the community together through health and fitness.

The annual event will conclude due to the retirement of its founder and longtime organizer, Carole Kai Onouye. The last event was held in February after its 41st run.

Kai Onouye ran the event since its inception in 1985. She pioneered the art of combining friendly competition with philanthropy in 1974, with the establishment of the Carole Kai Bed Race, which she ran until 1994.
