Pilot program begins to reduce loud vehicle noise on Oahu

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – The state is rolling out its pilot program meant to crack down on loud noises coming from vehicles on Oahu roadways.

Hawaii Department of Transportation crews installed the first noise-detection camera Monday on the H-3 Freeway at the Halekou Interchange, or the junction with Kamehameha Highway.

Another will be installed on Ala Moana Boulevard near Kalia Road Tuesday, and the remaining eight locations in the top 10 will be installed by January 2026…
