HONOLULU (Island News) — Is illegal dumping in Lahaina a problem? A Honolulu widow just shelled out $3,700 to clean up some land she owns. She thinks people have been discarding their construction debris in her yard for months.
Marsha Ishido lives on Oahu, and hasn’t visited her property since it burned down in 2023. She only found out when the Maui Fire Department sent her a letter on August 25 telling her to clean up the land, or get fined.
“[MFD] informed me there was debris on the property and I had to get rid of it no later than September 22nd or I would be fined $2,500 a day. I was shocked because after the fire, I had all the debris removed and it was just a vacant lot,” starts Ishido…
