Dozens gather in Downtown Honolulu to raise awareness for Domestic Violence Awareness Month

HONOLULU (Island News) — October marks Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and dozens of people lined the intersection of South King and Bishop streets in Downtown Honolulu to send a clear message: there’s no room for violence in Hawai‘i homes.

Drivers honked and waved as participants held signs urging awareness and support for survivors.

“My hope is that if someone drove by or walked by and they are in a situation where they’re scared to reach out for help. I would want them to know that resources like DVAC exist and they’re not alone,” said Lindsay Chambers, a board member with the Domestic Violence Action Center.

For Chambers, the cause is personal. “There was a friend that I lost to domestic violence, which drives the importance of the type of work that this organization does home,” she said…
