HONOLULU (KHON2) — The historic Falls of Clyde, which has been docked at Pier 7 at Honolulu Harbor for nearly 20 years, was towed out to sea and sunk on Oct. 15.
The state said it worked with a maritime archaeologist to catalog and safely remove historical artifacts from the vessel. It spent the last few months preparing for the ship’s final voyage.
“Now that we have access to a waterside birth, we’re going to do an assessment to figure out what repairs need to be done so that it can safely support a maritime operation and once we do that assessment we’ll decide what’s next,” Dre Kalili said, deputy director of transportation for harbors.
The vessel was sunk 25 miles offshore at the designated disposal site.
