Coast Guard rescues master of international cargo ship near Oahu

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – The U.S. Coast Guard rescued the master, or captain, of a Hong Kong-flagged cargo ship more than 50 miles off Oahu’s shores last week.

On Sunday, Oct. 5, at around 11 p.m., the Coast Guard said it received an email requesting aid from the Chipol Donghai, a 616-foot Hong Kong-flagged cargo ship.

Since the ship was 1,500 miles north of Oahu, it was too far for a rescue, according to the Coast Guard…
