HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – With the federal government shutdown entering its fourth week Wednesday, Gov. Josh Green joins “Spotlight Now” to discuss Hawaii’s financial and operational impacts.
According to the governor, the state is losing about $120 million per week due to the government shutdown.
Relief program aims to help struggling families
One of the biggest impacts to families, Green said, is the potential freezing of SNAP benefits on Nov. 1.
To offset those cuts and help families pay their bills, Green said, “I’m authorizing $100 million from what’s called TANF, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, so that people who would otherwise get food support from SNAP, food stamps, they will be able to get money here…
