HONOLULU (KHON2) — The Hawaiʻi Department of Health reported a positive wastewater sample for measles, the first of its kind in Kauaʻi County.
The wastewater sample was first collected on Sept. 24 and was sent to the University of Missouri for testing. This sample and testing process is routine happens weekly across the islands.
DOH was alerted of the positive result on Oct. 20. The measles virus detected in the sample was indicative of wild measles virus, officials said.
