HONOLULU (Island News) — “The federal shutdown is definitely going to become a crisis if it doesn’t get taken care of soon,” said Kim Bartenstein, director of agency relations at the Hawaii Foodbank.
Food banks across the state are scrambling to bring in more food to feed the needy in anticipation of federal cuts and the ongoing government shut down.
At the Hawaii Foodbank, “close to a half a million dollars worth of food that’s coming in so we can support families in need, whether it’s due to the impact with the federal government and employees that work for the government, or it’s with SNAP being cut off or WIC. we just want to prepare as much as we can,” Bartenstein said…
