Safety during Halloween in Waikiki

WAIKIKI, Oahu (KHON2) — Halloween is coming up in just four days, and one area that always gets a lot of excitement on the big night is Waikiki.

But with lots of foot traffic, it won’t only be from costume wearers and party goers, but there will also be increased security and patrols to ensure that everyone has a fun and safe holiday.

“There’ll be thousands of people on the street, but our biggest priority that night is to make sure people are having fun – but also the safety side,” said Trevor Abarzua, President of Waikiki Business Improvement District. “So our organization will have extra Aloha Ambassadors out, extra safety ambassadors out, and then we’re partnering with HPD as well, and there’ll be tons of police officers on the street.”

“We will be on Kalakaua Avenue on the Mauka side, and after about Lewers, you’ll see one lane blocked for some police vehicles,” said Major Bradon Ogata of the Honolulu Police Department. “We will have a lot of police on foot, so you’ll see that around too, and those vehicles basically will be there just to basically serve the officers in the area should they encounter anything.”…
