55-foot pine tree transported for city lights celebration: Kahala to Honolulu

HONOLULU (KHON2) — It’s only three days after Halloween, and already beginning to feel a lot like Christmas! The 55-foot centerpiece tree for Honolulu City Lights’ 2025 holiday celebration was moved to Honolulu Hale today.

On Monday, Nov. 3, crews from the Honolulu Department of Parks and Recreation, Environmental Sciences, Facility Maintenance and the Honolulu Police Department worked together to harvest and transport the Cook Pine tree from a home in Kahala around 8:30 a.m.

“I grew up with them. They were a gift from the grandfather of a preschool friend,” said Laurette Wilkie, the tree’s owner. “So there’s just a lot of memories.”
