Mayor honors EMS heroes for Aliamanu fireworks tragedy

HONOLULU (KHON2) — On Nov. 14, Mayor Rick Blangiardi presented 18 members of the Honolulu Emergency Medical Services with the City’s Valor Awards for their work during the New Year’s fireworks explosion in Aliamanu.

The incident last year claimed six lives and injured nearly two dozen others. Honolulu EMS mobilized 10 ambulances with crews in response to the blast on Keaka Drive shortly after midnight on New Year’s Day.
