Waikiki assault victim dies; case upgraded to murder

HONOLULU (KHON2) – Honolulu police have opened a murder investigation after a visitor who was assaulted in Waikīkī last week died from his injuries.

The attack happened just after midnight last Saturday, Nov. 8, in front of the Waikīkī Beachside Hostel on Lemon Road. Police said the assault involved two men and that the 43-year-old suspect attacked the 50-year-old visitor without any reason.

The victim was taken to the hospital with severe head injuries. He remained hospitalized until he died on Wednesday night, Nov. 12.

The suspect was initially arrested for attempted murder in the second degree and was being held on $300,000 bail. Now, with the victim’s death, the case has been reclassified as second-degree murder…
