Closure of Ulehawa Beach Park in Waianae extended after 10 tons of trash removed

The Honolulu Department of Parks and Recreation, along with Councilmember Andria Tupola, announced the extension of the closure of a portion of Ulehawa Beach Park in Waianae to remove trash and homeless encampments via a Stored Property Ordinance enforcement.

Officials originally closed the makai-side of Farrington Highway between Lualei Place and Hakimo Road from Nov. 7-15. The closure has now been extended until Nov. 29 in order to further rehabilitate and clean the shoreline. Signs will delineate the closure area during this time.

On Friday, Nov. 7, dozens of staff from DPR, the Department of Facility Maintenance, the Honolulu Police Department, H.T.M. Contractors, the Hawaiian Humane Society, and Kealahou West Oahu took part in a Stored Property Ordinance enforcement, which allows the city to get rid of personal property left in public places in order to remove homeless encampments.
