‘Disrespectful’: Portuguese monument vandalized, damaged

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – A Padrao monument honoring Portuguese immigrants sits in disrepair in downtown Honolulu, scarred with permanent marker and littered with trash.

The Portuguese stone marker, installed next to Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Fort Street Mall, commemorates the community’s contributions to Hawaii.

“Look at how dirty and grungy it is. I’m shocked the city and county would allow it to look this way,” John Fielding, an advocate for the site, said. “It just saddens me, that we would be so disrespectful to our Portuguese community.”…
