Tenants in low-income building face massive rent increases

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Seniors living at a low-income housing complex on Young Street say they were blindsided by sudden rent increase notices delivered on Halloween, giving them about a week to decide whether to accept the higher rate or move out before the new prices take effect Jan. 1.

At Artesian Vista, tenants described finding letters taped to doors throughout the building.

“When I came home from the church, I saw several of them on a lot of doors, and it was an increase in rent,” said resident Karen Dickey Goley…
