HONOLULU (KHON2) — There have been two arson cases in the last three months in the Kunia area and it is renewing concerns about fire safety and water infrastructure in the Kunia area.
HFD battles brush fires in Kunia, suspect arrested
On Thursday, HFD responded to a brush fire off H1 East and Kunia around 10:45 a.m., one hour later, another brush fire called came in down Kunia Road, this time off Farrington.
Honolulu police arrested 30-year-old Lendon Ethan Galoia-Lauti Thursday after a witness reported seeing him leaving the area moments before the fire ignited near Farrington Highway and Kunia Road. Investigators say he is connected to one of two fires that broke out that day. Damage was estimated at about $5,000, and no injuries or evacuations were reported. He was charged over the weekend.
The arrest comes just three months after another man, Antonio Vierra, was charged in an August arson case that scorched acres of farmland in Kunia and Haleʻiwa. Farmers are still recovering from that blaze…
