HFD responds to sinking vessel; two men brought to safety near Hanauma Bay
Spencer Allen, a 17-year-old senior at Mid-Pacific Institute, saved a man lost at sea after his boat sank in the waters off East Oʻahu.
Allen and his friend, Akahi Hudgens, planned to take their jet ski from Spitting Caves to Hanauma Bay. But those plans took a quick turn when they got word of the distressed boater and jumped into action.
“Spencer canvased the ocean, ending up a mile from the coast. He then noticed bystanders pointing in another direction and immediately changed course, focusing on a tiny speck in the distance, which turned out to be the missing boater,” Honolulu City Council Member Scott Nishimoto said…
