Hiker feeling ‘thankful’ 2 years after 1,000 foot fall in Hawaii

HONOLULU (KHON2) — It has been two years since a California man fell from Oahu’s Pali Notches trail and spent several nights in the wilderness before his rescue.

State officials said his story should serve as a warning to other adventurers.

Oahu visitor survives 1,000-foot fall: ‘This was a bit foolhardy’

Ian Snyder slipped off the Pali Notches trail and fell about 1,000 feet in December 2023. He drifted in and out of consciousness for three days before an HFD helicopter spotted him and rescued him. Snyder said he is still not back to 100%.

“I have issues in my right eye, get double vision pretty regularly sometimes. Like, right now it’s it’s good, but depends on light, depends on how tired I am, depends on other random factors. Just like it wanders, and some days it’s really bad,” he said. “I’m incredibly thankful to God for the state I am now because I could have been maimed, I could’ve been dead.”…
