HONOLULU (KHON2) — Hundreds of people filled downtown Honolulu for a family Christmas event aimed at spreading holiday cheer and supporting families and at-risk youth in the Chinatown and Kalihi areas.
The Downtown Family Christmas event brought together churches, volunteer organizations, nonprofits and the Honolulu Police Department, all working side-by-side to provide food, gifts and a sense of community during the holiday season.
Christmas trees selling fast island wide
The Hawaii Foodservice Alliance donated four tons of food, including bread, milk, eggs and rice, which were distributed to families living in Kalihi and surrounding neighborhoods. Games, shaved ice and other activities were also provided for keiki throughout the day.
Every child who attended received a free gift — handed out by Honolulu police officers — as part of an effort to strengthen relationships between HPD and the community…
