Heavy rains flood town, more rain in the forecast

HONOLULU (KHON2) — Heavy rain moved across Oʻahu on Sunday, Dec. 14, flooding roads and causing major traffic disruptions from Waikīkī to Kalihi, as stormwater overwhelmed low-lying areas and drainage systems.

Some parts of the island saw up to four inches of rain over a 36-hour period, with the highest totals recorded in Kā‘ala, Maunawili, Hālawa and Nu‘uanu, according to the weather system’s rain gauges.
