Windward Oahu Ride Turns Shocking as Passenger Falls From Car and Driver Keeps Going

Yesterday morning in Windward Oahu, a 36-year-old man fell from a moving vehicle on Ahuimanu Road and was left in the street, Honolulu police reported. Police said the man was not wearing a seat belt and was hospitalized in serious condition after the passenger-side door opened as the car exited a driveway. Emergency responders took him to a trauma center, and officers are searching for the driver, who did not stop.

Police Say Driver Kept Going After Passenger Was Ejected

The Honolulu Police Department reported that the incident occurred around 8 a.m. when a 35-year-old woman drove away from a driveway with the passenger-side door open. As the vehicle entered Ahuimanu Road, the 36-year-old man in the front passenger seat fell onto the roadway.

Investigators reported that the driver continued east on Ahuimanu Road toward Kahekili Highway without stopping to provide information or assist the injured passenger. Police say the case is under active investigation.

Victim Treated at Trauma Center

Emergency Medical Services treated the man at the scene before taking him to a trauma center in serious condition, Hawaii News Now reported. The outlet also noted that the passenger was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the incident and that authorities have not yet determined whether drugs or alcohol were involved.

Hawaii law requires drivers involved in collisions that result in injury to stop, provide identifying and vehicle information, and offer reasonable assistance.
