Heavy rain soaks western parts of the state

HONOLULU (KHON2) — On Oahu, city officials are keeping a close eye on stream levels, but say there’s no immediate concern. Rain did cause some flooding on the west side, and a rare sight in the water had some people taking advantage.

At Kalanianaole Beach in Nanakuli, when the stream connects to the ocean, it’s time to grab the boards and jump in.

“We just chilling, cruising,” said Matthew Kupa, Nanakuli resident. “Get waves, that’s why.”

“Only when it rains, honestly, never like this,” said JJ Perkins, Nanakuli resident. “Thing always stay like right there, and then you know what I mean. Just the rain is been coming nonstop. Decide to open. So I was like, I’m amazed honestly.”…
