‘We will never forget’: Honoring the life of Honolulu-born Washington State Patrol Trooper Tara-Marysa Guting

HONOLULU (KHON) — A celebration of life service was held for the Washington State Patrol trooper with Hawaii ties who died in the line of duty on Dec. 19.

Fallen Trooper Tara-Marysa Guting was honored on Dec. 27 at Life Center Central Campus in Tacoma, Washington.

Strings of golden lights hung draped from the ceiling above the stage, which was filled with illuminated pine trees, as family and friend speakers remembered Guting’s life.

“We will never forget. We will never forget Tara, nor the 33 heroes that have died while serving this state as members of the Washington State Patrol,” said Devin Tanaka, Tara’s brother-in-law.

“Tara’s passing is a devastating loss to a family who knows all too well, both the rewards and risk of public service and a family that has offered that service with unquestioned valor and tragically now, unfathomable sacrifice,” Devin said.

Her older sister, Shannen Tanaka, shared that Guting loved the cartoon character Stitch from the Disney movie ‘Lilo and Stitch.’…
