Fireworks violations, arrests reported on New Year’s: HPD

HONOLULU (KHON2) — To ensure happy and safe New Year’s celebrations islandwide, the Honolulu Police Department set new safety standards when it came to celebrating.

Five treated overnight for potential fireworks injuries: EMS

Police wanted to crack down on the use of illegal fireworks, as violations could result in a fine of up to $10,000 and prison time of up to 10 years.

From last night, Dec. 31, to early this morning, Jan. 1, HPD responded to 592 calls about fireworks violations. Two arrests were made for fireworks violations, HPD said.
