AIEA (HawaiiNewsNow) – An Aiea family is continuing a long-time Japanese tradition to welcome the new year: the pounding of mochi in a huge bowl made out of rock called an usu.
For Debbie and Kevin Yoshino, it’s a way to bring family and friends together.
Kevin Yoshino said, “There’s a spiritual component for doing this but also, it’s just to get the neighbors together. In today’s day, we just come home close the door and we never see each other so just to get everyone together.”…
