Honolulu first responders battled flames over New Year’s Day, including H-1 car fire

HONOLULU (KHON) — Honolulu Fire Department was busy battling a string of separate fires over New Year’s Eve and Day this year.

On Jan. 1, police and firefighters were seen responding to a car fire near Waimalu that occurred on the H-1 heading westbound.

Residents on social media expressed their concern for the fiery blaze.

“[T]hank God for our first responders,” one user wrote in a Facebook post. “[H]ope the people are safe.”

Around 5:35 p.m., HFD received a 911 call for a car fire near the Pearl City exit.

A unit responded to the scene and arrived at 5:43 p.m., officials said.
