HONOLULU (Island News) — A moped rider was hospitalized after he was ejected onto the road trying to avoid a pedestrian on Thursday morning near the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport.
The accident involving a 61-year-old man happened on Paiea Street in the airport area at about 5:50 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026, according to the Honolulu Police Department (HPD). The moped rider was traveling westbound on Kamehameha Highway when he lost control as he turned left onto Paiea Street because of a woman crossing the street.
The woman was walking on Paiea Street near the intersection of N. Nimitz Highway as the “Do Not Walk” signal was lit. The moped rider was ejected from his vehicle onto the road and suffered critical injuries…
