Officials: Community tips, fireworks seizures lead to quieter New Year’s Eve across Hawaiʻi

HONOLULU (Island News) — Law enforcement agencies across Hawaiʻi said this year’s New Year’s Eve fireworks patrol marked a major step forward, with prevention efforts and strong community cooperation leading to a noticeably quieter night.

Officials from the Honolulu Police Department and the Department of Law Enforcement (DLE) credited a large part of the success to increased public participation, a surge in calls to 911 and an active anonymous tip line.

“The messaging did work,” an official said during an appearance on Island Life Live. “More people were calling in, reporting these violations. I think we’re taking strides in the right direction.”…
