HONOLULU (KHON2) — To ensure a safe New Year, the Honolulu Police Department cracked down on a new set of laws for New Year’s celebrations.
Fireworks violations, arrests reported on New Year’s: HPD
On the night of Dec. 31, 2025, into the early morning of Jan. 1, 2026, HPD responded to 592 calls about firework violations.
Although violations can carry penalties of up to $10,000 and up to 10 years in prison, drone video footage helps HPD review additional footage captured during New Year’s celebrations.
The Honolulu Police Department and the State Department of Law Enforcement said they plan to release complete details on Monday, Jan. 5. So far, HPD said two people were arrested for firework violations.
