Man accused of mother’s murder pleads not guilty in court

HONOLULU (KHON2) — Micah Auna, the 29-year-old man charged with the murder of his mother, has pleaded not guilty in his court appearance on Jan. 5.

Because of his outbursts in court, legal experts say the man accused of killing his mother shows some signs of mental illness. They say that’s going to be key in moving forward in his murder trial.

In his arraignment and plea hearing Monday morning, Judge Clarissa Malinao entered a not guilty plea on behalf of murder suspect Micah Auna. She was clear in her orders telling him no need to say anything. And if he does, it may be used against him.

“Are you the bailiff?” asked Auna. “Alright. One moment, Mr. Auna,” said Judge Malinao. “Please refrain from making any comments at this point in time, sorry. Until the court concludes. Thank you, sir.”…
