Over the New Year’s holiday, Honolulu police officers responded to nearly 600 fireworks-related calls and arrested two individuals for fireworks violations.
Honolulu police fielded 592 calls for fireworks-related violations around the island between Dec. 31, 2025, at 6 p.m. and Jan. 1, 2026, at 6 a.m. Last year during the same period, HPD had only received 395 calls for fireworks violations.
“The increase in calls for service related to fireworks violations shows progress as we have been asking for more eyes in the community,” said HPD’s Regional Patrol Bureau Assistant Chief Brian Lynch in an email to Spectrum News Hawaii. “We want to thank those who called 911 to report illegal fireworks.
