HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – The state has fined a boater over $10,000 for violating longline fishing laws.
On May 7, 2025, off Hawaii Island’s Kona coast, the Department of Land and Natural Resources said Division of Conservation and Resource Enforcement (DOCARE) officers documented Konane Zager operating the Waiaka with longline gear that extended 3.69 nautical miles, more than three times the legal one-nautical-mile limit.
DOCARE officers said Zager hauled in three yellowfin tuna, two of which were sold to a local fish buyer, while the third was found alive and released into the ocean…
