Waimalu Water Main Blowout Near Pearlridge Leaves Homes Dry And Traffic Jammed

A broken 12-inch water pipe in Waimalu caused problems on Saturday for people near Pearlridge. Water pressure dropped or stopped for some homes, and traffic slowed as crews closed one lane near Kaonohi Street and Moanalua Road to make repairs. The Board of Water Supply brought in water trucks for residents and asked drivers to expect delays. Residents were also told to bring their own containers to collect water, as reported by Hawaii News Now.

Where The Break Hit And Who Felt It

According to the Board of Water Supply’s live main-break page, the incident is listed at 98-250 Kaonohi Street, near the intersection of Moanalua Road and Uao Place, and involves a 12-inch pipe that was taken out of service around 4 p.m. The break is reported to be affecting five services. Two water wagons have been set up nearby for customers who need water, one at 98-099 Uao Place in front of the Lele Pono sign and another at 98-263 Kaonohi Street. The entry, updated Saturday, confirms that crews are on site making repairs, according to the Board of Water Supply.

Crews In The Trench And What Residents Should Expect

Hawaii News Now reports that authorities closed the makai-bound lane at Kaonohi and Moanalua so crews could excavate and work to stop the leak, and warned motorists to use caution and expect delays. The outlet also notes that residents in nearby condominiums and townhouses between Moanalua Road and Uao Place may be experiencing low to no water pressure, and that BWS is asking affected customers to bring their own containers to fill at the water wagon. Local officials advised that if you rely on medical equipment or have young children at home, you should think through your immediate water needs until full service is restored.

Where To Get Water And Who To Call
