HONOLULU (Island News) — A Honolulu Police Department pilot program aimed at curbing car break-ins at popular scenic lookouts on Oʻahu has resulted in a dramatic decrease in thefts, according to police.
In 2023, there were 255 reported vehicle break-ins at East Honolulu scenic lookouts. By 2025, that number dropped to just four incidents after HPD installed overt video monitoring systems as part of a pilot program.
