City plans more pedestrian refuge islands in Honolulu

KAIMUKI, Hawaii (Island News) — At a marked crosswalk on Waialae and Fourth Avenue, many pedestrians still have trouble crossing the street.

“The road’s pretty busy because there’s no stop sign for the drivers and it normally takes like five minutes for anybody to notice that you’re there,” said high school student Leonardo Longhi. “So it’s pretty risky just walking.”

That’s why Longhi and his friends try not to use this crosswalk after school…
