Hawaii red light, speed camera program to expand

HONOLULU (KHON2) — The Hawaii Department of Transportation is expanding its red light and speed camera program on Oahu.

Officials said the devices — which are currently at 10 intersections on Oahu — have dramatically cut dangerous driving.

The HDOT’s red light and speed cameras are delivering results at 10 Oahu intersections where they have been in place since 2022. Officials said drivers are slowing down and violations are falling as well.

“The people are slowing down, especially at the intersections, great thing to see that at the red light — where we have red light cameras — we have reductions in people running red lights, over 60% reduction, which is awesome,” said HDOT director Ed Sniffen…
