4 Hawaii fraud criminals sentenced to federal prison

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Four fraud criminals were sentenced to federal prison this week after conspiring to defraud the IRS through fake tax returns over three and a half years.

According to the U.S. Department of Justice, Rosemarie Lastimado-Dradi, 52, Marciaminajuanequita Dumlao, 61, and the married couple, Elvah Miranda, 64, and Daniel Miranda, 64, filed fraudulent returns claiming false withholdings from mortgage lenders from at least January 2015 through September 2018.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office said after processing the false returns, the IRS issued refunds to Dumlao and the Mirandas totaling over $1 million. The defendants then created trusts, opened new bank accounts in the names of business entities and the trusts, and transferred the criminal proceeds between the accounts to conceal the funds from the IRS…
