HONOLULU (KHON2) — Strong winds battered portions of Oʻahu on Monday, Feb. 2, knocking out power to thousands of residents and causing damage across Windward communities.
More than 21K residents left without power statewide
The National Weather Service reported wind gusts reaching up to 55 miles per hour in some areas. The strongest impacts were felt on the Windward side, where fallen trees and damaged utility poles triggered widespread outages.
According to Hawaiian Electric’s outage map, nearly 27,000 customers were without power at one point on Monday evening, around 5 p.m.
