Weekend Island Weather – New storm system brings flood and wind threats to the islands this weekend

HONOLULU (Island News) — Weather Alert Days from Saturday through Monday as Flood and High Wind Watches go in effect.

Overnight, there will be cloudy skies as a cold front pushes into Kauai and Oahu. Expect late night and early morning rains as the front passes through the western islands. Temperatures will fall into the upper 60s.

On Saturday, cloudy skies and pockets of heavy rains are forecast. A Flood Watch is in effect with the heaviest rains focused on windward spots. Highs will be in the upper 70s. East to northeast winds will be at 15 to 25 mph. A Winter Storm Watch for the Big Island summits with up to a foot of snow possible.

The Flood Watch continues for Sunday and Monday as heavy rains will once again develop. Strong trade winds could gust 40 to 60+ mph late Sunday to Monday. The strongest winds will be on top of and the south and west of mountains (leeward-facing slopes)…
