HONOLULU (KHON2) — Flooding has plagued the Mapunapuna area for years, and businesses said the issue is getting worse.
Mapunapuna businesses flooded after high tide brings overflowing waters
The City is looking at various solutions and presented them to the area neighborhood board on Thursday, Feb. 12.
Staff at Furever Friends Play and Stay in Mapunapuna said their walk to work is almost a swim every single month. Tides coming in after the full moon flood the streets and dry out business.
“Some people just don’t even want to deal with it. So, they see it’s flooded, and then they cancel,” said Furever Friends animal care specialist Alea Hooy. “We do what we can to help them, walk in the flood, we got a kayak, and we’ve kayaked dogs in!”…
