Concerns over crime amid Chinese New Year celebrations

CHINATOWN, Hawaii (KHON2) — Thousands are expected to turn out in Chinatown on Friday, Feb. 13, and Saturday, Feb. 14, for Chinese New Year celebrations.

Chinatown clean up points to the right direction

Organizers and community members said concerns over crime are valid, but encouraged residents not to let fear keep them from celebrating the Year of the Horse.

Honolulu police said they will be out in force for Chinese New Year celebrations over the weekend.

“For this event, we have upwards of 20 traffic posts to facilitate the flow of traffic and get everyone in and out of the area safely. We also have additional support units besides the regular officers on patrol,” said Honolulu Police Department, District 1 acting captain Scott Matsumura…
