HONOLULU (Island News) — Strong trade winds are continuing across Hawaii, bringing gusty conditions and scattered showers, especially in windward and mountain areas.
Wind gusts between 40 and 50 miles per hour have been reported on islands from Oahu to the Big Island. Skies have been mostly cloudy, and while some sunshine is expected in leeward areas later today, windward sides will likely stay cloudy with passing showers.
A Wind Advisory remains in effect through Tuesday afternoon for the windiest areas. Forecasters say the strong easterly trade winds will continue for most of the week. Showers are expected to follow a typical trade wind pattern, with more rain at night and occasional showers during the day. Some of the rain may reach leeward communities from time to time.
A High Surf Advisory is also in place for east-facing shores, including areas of Honolulu and parts of Maui and Kauai. Surf along east shores will remain high through at least Tuesday, and possibly into Wednesday. In contrast, north, west, and south shores will see smaller waves through the rest of the week…
