HONOLULU (KHON2) — The City and County of Honolulu Department of Environmental Services is responding to a wastewater overflow at the Ahuimanu Preliminary Treatment Facility after heavy rain caused elevated flows and stormwater infiltration.
Heavy rains, flooding slam Oahu and Kauai
According to ENV, increased flows around 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, overwhelmed the facility and caused a manhole to discharge into a retention basin that normally collects stormwater runoff. The basin eventually exceeded capacity, allowing water to enter Ahuimanu Stream.
The spill stopped at approximately 4 p.m.
