Smoky smell inside high-rise prompts HFD response

HONOLULU (KHON2) — A smoky smell inside a high-rise building in Ala Moana prompted a six-unit response by the Honolulu Fire Department.

At 10:01 a.m., HFD said they received a 911 call about a building fire on Kapiolani Boulevard. The first unit arrived at the scene by 10:05 a.m. to the smell of smoke from a 45-story residential building.

To get the fire under control, firefighters secured a water supply and initiated high-rise operations while others worked to find the fire’s source.

While investigating, firefighters discovered that the small fire was inside a residential unit and was extinguished by the building’s sprinkler system, HFD said…
