Unsealed court records detail FBI raid, witness threat during hitman-for-hire investigation

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Recently unsealed court documents detail the steps law enforcement took after one of the defendants in a high-profile bribery case was accused of trying to hire a hitman to harm the prosecutor and federal judge overseeing the trial.

Twenty-one documents unsealed Friday were made public after a request by the Public First Law Center.

The records were filed just before the 2024 bribery trial of former city prosecutor Keith Kaneshiro and executives from an engineering company, including the company’s lawyer, Sheri Tanaka.

Trial delay sought amid new allegations

One document showed Tanaka’s attorney sought to delay the trial just three weeks ahead of jury selection, citing intense new publicity connected to new allegations that she paid a convicted felon to target the federal officials…
