Trial date set for man accused of killing mother in Hawaii Kai

HONOLULU (Island News) — The jury trial for the man accused of killing his mom at her Hawaii Kai home is scheduled to begin in early March.

The trial for Micah Auna, 29, who was indicted with second-degree murder for the alleged death of his mother, Michele Hanapi-Auna, 60, is scheduled for Monday, March 9, 2026, in First Circuit Court. Jury selection will take place before any court proceedings.

On Saturday morning, Dec. 20, 2025, Honolulu police were called to a house on Upolo Place in Hawaii Kai to conduct a welfare check on Hanapi-Auna who did not show up to work. Hanapi-Auna’s body was found at the bottom of the stairs covered with towels. Her body was profusely bleeding from the head from an apparent beating.

In court on Tuesday, Dec. 23, a police officer said Auna told him his mother “molested” him and his cousin “so he pushed her.”…
