New EMT training program launches in Waianae

A partnership between the City and County of Honolulu’s Emergency Medical Services and Waianae Coast Comprehensive Health Center launched a new emergency medical technician training program based in Leeward Oahu on Friday, according to a news release.

The goal is to expand career pathways for residents, especially those who live on the west side, while building emergency medical services capacity across the island. On Friday, the Leeward Coast Academy Welcome Event recognized the program’s first-ever cohort of 12 EMT recruits, all of whom live in Leeward Oahu.

“An EMT program in the heart of the Leeward Coast provides an incredible opportunity to these men and women who have bravely chosen to take on a demanding career,” said Mayor Rick Blangiardi in the release. “I want to commend the partnership between the Honolulu Emergency Medical Services and the Waianae Coast Comprehensive Health Center for its commitment to empowering these recruits and providing career pathways in the emergency medical response system.
